The staff at 3 Birds Auto knows our dealership sells high-quality, dependable, safe vehicles for every driver, but as a precaution, we would like to offer a few suggestions for vehicle safety in the frigid winter months. If you properly care for your new vehicle, you will enjoy the peace of mind that comes from driving a well-maintained vehicle.
To avoid breakdowns and keep your vehicle running smoothly in the cold winter temps, you should follow these suggestions:
- Test your car battery and replace if necessary. A full-charged battery is necessary to start your vehicle in cold temps.
- Check your antifreeze level when the engine is cold and refill with a 50/50 solution of water and antifreeze if necessary.
- Check windshield wipers and replace if necessary and refill windshield washer fluid with winter cleaning solution.
- Check for proper tire pressure on all four tires and spare, and replace tires with worn tread. When the outside temps drop, the air pressure inside your tires decrease - about one or two PSI for every ten degrees. Drivers should check their tire pressure frequently during the winter months and re-inflate to recommended levels as necessary.
- Check belts and hoses for signs of wear and replace as necessary. Belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles or as necessary.
- Have your car’s heater/defrost checked by a certified technician.
Always make sure your vehicle has plenty of gas in the tank. This is a good idea to help prevent motorists from being stranded in cold weather and it will also prevent the gasoline from freezing in your tank if temperatures drop rapidly. Be sure to properly warm up your vehicle’s engine before driving, and always keep an emergency road side kit with blankets, flashlight, first-aid kit, water, and jumper cables in your vehicle.
3 Birds Auto takes the safety of our customers very seriously. We hope you will follow these winter safety tips and call or contact us if you have any further questions.
